10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years of Building Lady Jewel Co.

Ten years ago, I set out to build a brand and event strategy firm that corporate leaders could trust with the moments their reputation rides on. A decade in, I can tell you: the lessons that shaped this business are the same ones that shape every event we produce for our clients.

Here’s what ten years has taught me, and what I believe will serve you too, whether you’re building a company or building a brand.

Community

Surround yourself with people who’ve been in the arena and come out the other side. The right community doesn’t just network. It holds you accountable, shares hard-won wisdom, and refuses to let you quit when the work gets difficult. Every strong brand is built with people in its corner, not in isolation.

Consistency

Show up every day. Not with grand gestures, with the small, repeatable actions that compound over time. Success isn’t a single big push. It’s the 1% habits, done daily, until they become something remarkable.

Faith

Believe in what you’re building, even when belief runs low. It will, at times. That’s what community is for. To remind you that you have what it takes, that solutions exist, that the legacy you’re building is worth the climb. Believe in yourself. Believe in your team. Believe in the outcome before you can see it.

Resilience

Never give up. Three words, but they carry more weight than almost anything else I know. Setbacks come. Plans change. Resilience isn’t about avoiding the hard moments. It’s choosing to get up one more time than you’ve been knocked down, and adapting without losing your footing.

Feel, Then Do

I’m an empath by nature. I feel deeply. I’ve learned that neither extreme works: not feeling so much you can’t move, and not walling off so completely you stop feeling at all. The discipline is in processing emotion without stepping away from the work. Acknowledge it. Move through it. Keep showing up.

Focus

New ideas are easy to chase. Discipline is choosing not to. Freedom in business doesn’t come from following every idea. It comes from keeping your priorities in front of you so you can innovate without losing momentum on what actually matters.

Write It Down

Goals on paper stay visible, not just on the page, but in your mind. What you see regularly stops being a distant idea and becomes a daily priority. This is a discipline, not a suggestion.

Systems

Success is built on structure, not chance. The right systems, for managing clients, executing events, running the day-to-day, create the freedom to focus on strategy, creativity, and the relationships that grow the business. Systems run in the background so excellence can show up in the room.

Tracking

You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Financial health, marketing results, client feedback, project timelines, all of it informs smarter decisions. Tracking isn’t extra work. It’s the information that lets you lead with confidence instead of guesswork.

Refresh

Ten years in, this is the lesson I didn’t expect to need, and the one I now consider essential.

Refresh the brand. Refresh the objectives. Refresh the vision and the direction. Ask, honestly: are we still on the right path? The answer isn’t always yes, and that’s not a failure, it’s the work. A brand that refuses to be forgettable has to be willing to look at itself clearly, again and again, and adjust before the room asks it to.

That’s true for a business. It’s true for every event we design. And it’s the standard we hold ourselves to as we step into year eleven.

Ten years have taught me that building a business isn’t just about what you do, it’s about who you become in the process, and whether you’re still willing to grow.

So take a moment. Reflect on where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re headed. Then let’s have a conversation, because your brand doesn’t get a second chance to earn the room, and neither do we.

Until next time ~
